Marco:Ciao a tutti e bentornati all'ascolto di VcriptoV — Crypto in chiaro!
Settantuno! Cioè, Giulia, siamo ufficialmente in piena zona avidità.
Giulia:Tipico, no?
Marco:Wise words. So bring us down to earth: what's the mood in the markets today? What is our birthday boy, His Majesty Bitcoin, up to?
Giulia:So, let's start from the fixed point: Bitcoin is currently sitting at 83.858 dollars. If we look at the last 24 hours we see a tiny dip, a minus 0,7%, which is practically a breath, the blink of an eye. But if we widen our view to the last seven days, the picture gets decidedly interesting: we're at a solid plus 3,7%. Just think, if we look at the price in euro, we're at a flat 73.800 euro, with a weekly growth marking an encouraging plus 8,5%. In short, a truly remarkable hold above recent highs, showing impressive underlying strength.
Dorme sonni tranquilli?
Giulia:Ethereum is in an orderly consolidation phase. It is moving at 2.684 dollars, with a practically flat daily change, minus 0,1%, and a weekly gain of 2,8%. Let's say it is acting as a polite spectator, while elsewhere there is quite a bit of movement.
Marco:Like? Let me guess: the usual suspects running faster than the others when the market heats up?
Giulia:Esatto, hai fatto centro.
Marco:Wait, XRP? The coin that always seemed on the verge of taking off and then stayed stuck there?
Giulia:That's the one! XRP is trading today at 1,55 dollars. In the last 24 hours it's up a modest plus 1,3%, but over the past seven days it has pulled off a spectacular rally of 39% 11,3%. It has literally shifted gears compared to the flat calm its supporters had gotten used to.
Marco:Remarkable, truly. But listen, I know you have the scoreboard of today's flares right in front of your eyes, the ones that make the most reckless traders jump out of their chairs. Who caught the rocket today?
Marco:My goodness, plus twenty percent in a day is almost scary to look at. But for equal time, and above all to prevent our listeners from thinking that everything here is sunshine and roses, surely someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, right?
Giulia:Absolutely yes, the law of gravity always applies. Even though today's drops are very contained compared to the positive flares, among the weakest in the last 24 hours we find Tezos, with XTZ down 1,1%, then Injective, INJ, which leaves 2,3% on the floor, and finally FLOW, which closes the line with a drop of 2,8%. No drama, mind you: physiological profit-taking after days of climbing.
Giulia:It's the buzzword of the decade, Marco! There are those who call it "digital gold 2.0", and those who consider it pure financial heresy. But to understand if this label really makes sense, we need to look beyond social media slogans and compare the real properties of these two assets. Starting with what economists call the fundamental premise of value: scarcity.
Marco:And that's where the catch is, or maybe I should say the bullion! Because on one hand, we have a heavy, yellow rock that we've been pulling out of the earth for thousands of years, and on the other, a line of mathematical code invented by a mysterious figure fifteen years ago. Are you ready to dismantle this whole business of 21 million pieces versus the mines of the entire planet piece by piece?
Giulia:Prontissima.
Marco:Wait, wait. Are you telling me that if tomorrow we decided to dig up every single centimeter of the planet, we'd find gold by the wagonload?
Giulia:Well, not quite infinite wagonloads, but the point is that every year the total amount of gold in the world increases. Mining production usually adds about 39% or 1,5% 2% to the global stock each year. It's a constant growth. Bitcoin, instead, has completely flipped this concept on its head. Satoshi Nakamoto wrote a line in the code that has become a kind of religious dogma: there will never be more than 21 million Bitcoins. Period. End of story.
Marco:Ok, but 21 million is a number like any other. It could have written a billion or twelve. Why should this make it "better" than gold? I mean, in the end it's just a number in a digital file, right?
Giulia:It's not just the number, Marco, it's mathematical certainty. Think about 'gold': if the price of 'gold' doubles tomorrow morning, what happens? All the mining companies in the world go crazy, reopen mines that weren't profitable before, buy new machinery, and start pumping gold onto the market like there's no tomorrow. So, an increase in demand leads to an increase in supply, which ultimately tends to curb the price. That's the law of the market.
È... aspetta, come posso dire... è una scarsità assoluta, non relativa.
Marco:Okay, I admit it's fascinating. But let me play devil's advocate, or rather, the gold prospector's advocate. You say that gold's scarcity is relative to the Earth, right? But I read that there are asteroids out there, like Psyche 16, that are practically made of gold and precious metals. Stuff that if we bring them home, we all become billionaires or, more likely, gold ends up being worth as much as the gravel in my garden. Do you think that's sci-fi movie stuff or a real threat to bullion fans?
Giulia:(ride) Oddio, Marco, mi tiri fuori l'estrazione mineraria spaziale!
Oggi Bitcoin è a 83.858 dollari. È tanto, è pochissimo rispetto al valore totale dell'oro mondiale, no?
Marco:Ecco, hai detto "Satoshi". Mi piace come suona, fa molto ninja. Mi rimangono solo i ricordi?
Giulia:This is the classic fear of the "total blackout". But think about it for a second: if tomorrow morning the internet went down globally and never came back, the price of Bitcoin would be the least of your problems. We would be in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, banks, supermarkets, the power grid wouldn't work anymore, nothing. In that case, maybe a gold bullion could be useful to trade for a box of beans, but we are in an extreme scenario. In today's reality, Bitcoin's "digital nature" is its superpower, not its limitation.
Giulia:Exactly. Try sending a kilo of 'gold' to a friend in Tokyo. You have to insure it, pack it, ship it, pay customs, wait weeks. With Bitcoin, you send a fraction of that value with a click, while sipping a coffee here in Italy. And this is where the comparison gets interesting, because scarcity is only half the story. The other half is how easy it is to carry this value around.
Marco:Ah, indeed, I was just thinking about that. A movie scene came to mind, you know those robberies where they have to carry away lingots in trucks because they weigh a ton? Well, I guess moving wealth isn's as trivial as it looks in action movies.
Giulia:And indeed it does have appeal, goodness knows. But from a practical standpoint, just think about what it takes to move even a significant amount of physical gold. You can't just put it in a backpack and go for a ride on the subway. You need armored vans, armed security guards, permits, almost military-level logistics.
Marco:Esatto!
Giulia:Senza contare i costi.
Giulia:Exactly. A seed phrase, meaning that sequence of twelve or twenty-four random words that generate your wallet, fits comfortably in your pocket. In fact, you can even just memorize it in your head, for that matter. It takes up no space, weighs nothing, doesn't need an armored truck.
Giulia:In fact, you hit the nail on the head, Marco. It's the big difference between physical custody and digital custody. With gold, you delegate security to third parties: the bank, the vault, the transport company. You pay a fee and they provide reinforced concrete walls. With Bitcoin, the responsibility is entirely yours. You are your own bank.
Marco:Eh, and that's precisely what terrifies people! I mean, the idea of being the sole person responsible for your own cybersecurity is scary. If you mess up a backup, if you fall for a poorly disguised phishing link, you've lost everything. You can't "phish" gold via email.
Marco:Well, okay, the extreme geopolitical scenario sounds like a spy movie, but I completely understand the censorship-resistance concept. It's literally bulletproof from this perspective. But, hey, keeping our feet on the ground in everyday life... I like the idea of being able to move value quickly, but I wonder if this ease doesn't clash with the way we use money for small daily expenses, like buying things at the supermarket or paying for a coffee.
Lì l'oro perde in partenza, giusto?
Marco:Indeed! I can picture it. You pull out your Swiss Army knife and start filing a piece of your wedding ring on the counter. "Wait, let me check with the scale to see if it's two exact milligrams". The barista throws the coffee cup at you, rightfully so.
Giulia:This is the "unit bias', it"s a classic. But it's essential to clarify: Bitcoin is divisible down to the eighth decimal place. This means the minimum unit is not 'one Bitcoin", but the Satoshi. It"s named after the creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, and a single Bitcoin contains a hundred million of them. A hundred million "digital cents", if we want to call them that.
Marco:Cento milioni?
Giulia:Exactly, an infinitesimal fraction. This means technically you could send just a few cents of value. If you want to pay for that famous coffee in Bitcoin, you can do it by transferring, I don't know, three or four thousand Satoshis, depending on the current exchange rate. You don't have to "cut" anything, you don't have to weigh anything. It's all software.
Marco:Ok, chiaro.
Giulia:(ride) Ma infatti hai ragione!
Marco:Ah, ecco.
Bitcoin invece... beh, è letteralmente "peso zero".
Marco:Peso zero e ingombro zero.
Marco:You're convincing me about the practicality, Giulia. But there's an elephant in the room. Or rather, a mammoth. Because we are talking about paying for coffee or using it as a reserve, but the truth is that if I buy a coffee with Bitcoin today, maybe tomorrow those Satoshis are worth double or half. Gold, more or less, is there. Maybe it moves by a percentage point, but it's not like you wake up and gold has lost 10;% overnight because someone wrote a post on X.
Giulia:Heh, you hit a sore spot, Marco. Stability versus growth. This is truly the big challenge: an asset with five thousand years of history versus one with fifteen. And this is exactly what we need to talk about, because volatility is what scares people looking at Bitcoin from the outside the most, comparing it to the almost 34 "boring" 34 solidity of the 39 gold bar.
Marco:Exactly, because ok the technology, ok the Satoshis and the speed, but if my "digital wallet" looks like an amusement park roller coaster, I find it hard to consider it a safe haven like a Swiss bank vault full of heavy bars. But then, is this volatility a growing pain or is it truly in Bitcoin's DNA? And above all, is gold really as stable as we think? Because I think there are surprises there too...
Giulia:Largely yes, it"s really a matter of "size'. Think about market capitalization. Gold has been around for millennia, its everywhere, in central bank reserves, family heirloom jewelry, microchips. Its worth something like 39 or 2 trillion dollars. To move the price of gold by even 39% in a day, a monstrous amount of money needs to move. It's like trying to create a rogue wave in the middle of the ocean: you need an underwater earthquake.
Marco:And Bitcoin is instead my home pool, where if I do a cannonball dive, half the water splashes out'?
Siamo in zona "avidità".
Marco:Eh, l'ho visto.
Marco:I knew the "but" was coming. Tell me.
Giulia:But look, gold has its bad moments too, you know. If you look at long cycles, there have been periods of years where gold has flatlined or dropped while inflation raged. It's just that it does it in slow motion, so you don'notice it every day watching the news. The difference is that Bitcoin throws reality in your face 39/24, seven days a week. Crypto markets never close. Never. Saturday afternoon? The price moves. Christmas night? The price moves.
Marco:Ok, so today we are still in the Wild West. And in the Wild West, you need to know how to shoot, or at least how not to get shot. Because listen, Giulia, all this talk about volatility is fascinating, but let's get back to practice. If I decide to put a portion of my savings into Bitcoin, how do I keep from having a bile reflux every time I see a red candle on the chart? Because theory is fine, the "stress tax" is fine, but I'd rather avoid paying it all at once.
Giulia:And this is where we move from philosophy to strategy. Because you see, the problem is not volatility itself, but how you manage it. Many beginner investors make the mistake of 'jumping in blindly". They buy because they heard the price is going up, maybe they see SOL doing +34% in a week or XRP flying to +7,6%, and they say: ,3;Ok, I"m getting in now!". Then the market corrects by 2% – which in crypto is the blink of an eye – and they panic.
Marco:Present! Well, not me directly, but a friend of mine... let's say that. The classic "friend" who buys at the top and sells at the bottom. But is there a technical way to put on some kind of parachute? Something that says: "Ok, I believe in this project, but if things go really bad, automatically get me out before I lose my shirt too"?
Giulia:So, let's start with the basics. A stop loss, literally translated, means "stop the loss". It's simply an automatic order you give to the exchange platform to sell your asset if the price drops to a certain level that you established in advance. Period. No black magic, no secret algorithms. It's a limit price level.
Marco:Which is the most frustrating thing in the world. It's a bit like when you put on your seatbelt, but you pull it so tight that you can't breathe and in the end you unbuckle it because it bothers you, and right at that moment you crash. So the million-dollar question is: where on earth do you position this blessed seatbelt to make sure it really protects you without choking you at the first turn?
Giulia:Ah, good question. And the answer is not a fixed number or a magical percentage valid for everyone. It depends on two key factors: your risk appetite and, above all, 39 the technical analysis of the chart. Usually, a smart stop loss isn't placed randomly, but is put below the so-called 34 "key supports" 34.
Marco:Supporti chiave... Parola grossa!
Giulia:A support is simply a price level where, historically, there have been enough buyers to stop the price drop. It's like a nice solid floor. If the price drops, it gets down there, hits the floor and often bounces back up. So, if you set your stop loss *right below* that floor, it makes logical sense. Because it means if the price breaks that support and smashes through the floor, then the market structure has truly changed and the decline might continue. At that point you want out.
Marco:Capito!
Giulia:Oh, yeah, an all-time classic: moving the stop loss while the market is moving against you.
Marco:Meaning? Give an example, because I'm definitely falling into this trap.
Giulia:Suppose you buy. You set your stop loss at eighty thousand dollars. The market drops, hits eighty-one thousand, then 0 thousand and five hundred... and instead of accepting the loss and letting the stop loss do its job, you start panicking and say: 'No, wait, it"ll bounce back now, I"ll move the stop loss to seventy-five thousand to give it more breathing room'. And then the market drops further, and you move it to seventy thousand. You are basically taking off your seatbelt while driving at a hundred miles per hour straight into a wall.
Giulia:Exactly. You set the rule with a clear head, when the market is calm, and then you let the machine execute it, without getting tricked by the emotions of the moment. And this applies whether you are looking at a consolidated asset, or dancing on a rollercoaster with the wildest altcoins of the week.
Marco:Mamma mia, quanto hai ragione.
Marco:Però dall'altra parte devi pure accudirlo! Praticamente impossibile.
Giulia:Exactly. And that's precisely where Bitcoin comes into play. It is only fifteen years old, it is a decidedly younger asset, it still makes dizzying leaps — think that even today it is trading around eighty-three thousand eight hundred dollars, after gaining more than three percent in seven days — but it offers you features that physical gold can never have.
Marco:Like absolute mathematical scarcity, right? No gold-filled asteroids suddenly arriving from space to devalue it: twenty-one million pieces, written in the code, and that's it.
Giulia:Ma infatti!
Marco:Ok, so, if I understood the big picture correctly... we aren't talking about a religious war where one solution has to eliminate the other?
Marco:Ah yes, the famous emotions. And with a Fear and Greed index that today sits at seventy-one, meaning right in the greed zone as we saw at the beginning of the episode, I'd say the temptation to get caught up in the rush or the fear of missing out is very high.
Giulia:That's right. And that is why we conclude with a methodological tip that must become the golden rule for everyone: before making any market move, you need to establish a clear strategy with a cool head. Decide in advance how much you are willing to risk, use protection tools like the technical stop loss — without moving it while the market drops! — and above all, study. Knowledge is the'only true safety belt against impulsive decisions.
Marco:Truer words, Giulia. Discipline always beats' emotion. And speaking of studying and staying always up to date, we at VcriptoV are here for just that!
